How to install Magento?
This article will cover the most important steps of manual Magento installation. If for some reason you have decided to stick with our installation guide instead of Magento Commerce one - we are glad to welcome you in aheadWorks knowledge base, hope together we can shed a light on the installation of one of the best ecommerce platforms out there.
Before we proceed it is recommended to check if your system meets the official Magento store requirements in the corresponding knowledge base article.
Here is a rundown of what will be required: LAMP (LNMP) solution stack, cPanel manager (or any other manager preferred), 10 to 20 minutes.
Considering everything is ready we begin.
1) Download Magento installation package
Magento installation package can be downloaded from the Magento Commerce website. We recommend using official installation packaged and abandon any third party ones to avoid any possible issues.
2) Upload Magento installation package to your store FTP
Using cPanel manager or any preferred software upload Magento installation package to your store FTP and extract it to public_html folder. The installation process requires 'on write' permissions to be applied to the Magento files and folders.
3) Create MySQL database
Using cPanel create a MySQL database for your Magento store. Please consider writing down the database credentials as these would be required later in the installation.
4) Installing Magento
Once the installation package extracted and MySQL database created open the web browser and proceed to https://your_site/Magento_folder_name/index.php
a) License Agreement
Once at the Magento installation page you will be welcomed by the Magento development team and suggested to agree to the below terms and conditions.
Read carefully and tick I agree to the above terms and conditions checkbox and hit Continue button to proceed to the next installation step.
Next installation step is Localization. At this step one is suggested to specify store default Locale, Time Zone and Currency. These settings can be adjusted anytime after the installation so if you are not sure about any settings - feel free leaving default values.
Once every settings at this step configured - click Continue button. Before the next step Magento will check if the files and folders have required set of permissions applied. If for some reason some files or folders don't, installation guide will display a warning messages with the files and folders that require permission set adjusted listed.
At the Configuration step user is suggested to specify the MySQL database credentials from the step 3) of this guide and adjust the other Magento store settings.
The store settings at the Configuration step are optional and you are free to leave default values.
d) Create Admin Account
Next installation step is Create Admin Account. As the name states here one is to create first and primary Magento store administrator account. Along with the admin account one is suggested to specify the store owner details and Encryption Key, if the encryption key is not specified Magento store will provide you with an automatically generated one at the next installation step.
Please write down the admin account credentials and encryption key for later use and hit Continue button.
